| Song Project Participants Schedule ________________________________________________________________________________ The Song Project for 2010/11 is a component of the Composition Seminar, in conjunction with the Junior Vocal Performance Seminar; instructor, Kathryn Wright; pianist, Yukiko Oba. Early in the fall semester Composition majors are paired with Voice majors of the Junior Vocal Performance Seminar. Each composer will write a work for voice and piano for this singer. This project aims to give the participants some experience of the commissioning process, a process which often comes with restrictions and requirements for both the composer and the performer to work within. Singers and composers are encouraged to pool their ideas about possible texts and are expected to become familiar with each other's work. For this year's Song Project, the composers will write a single song, or set of songs, lasting no more than 6 minutes in total, on poems by any one of – or any combination of – the following poets: • A.R. Ammonss • Elizabeth Bishops • Donald Halls • Langston Hughess • Gregory Orrs • Kay Ryans • William Carlos Williamss More information and a few poems can be found at the following websites, among others - but let these sites be the beginning of your research, not the end. >The Poetry Foundation >The Academy of American Poets _______________________________________________________________________ Participants ______________________________________________________________________ back to top Schedule TBD Fall Semester Composition Seminar: Composing for the voice with Kathryn Wright Submissions WHEN: Wednesday, December 1, by 5:00 pm WHERE: Room 221 WHAT: three bound scores, your score must include a title page and text page + pdf file of your score emailed to jmurphree@bostonconservatory.edu INSTRUMENTATION: voice and piano DURATION: any >Score and Parts Preparation Guidelines >Song Project checklist TBD Spring Semester Masterclass CRS 11, Tuesday, February 15: Seully Hall, 8:00 Concert Performance of Song Project works ______________________________________________________________________ back to top |
