Course Objectives
The Dalcroze system is based upon the kinesthetic feed-back mechanism of the nervous system, which conveys information between the mind and the body. This course teaches and reinforces concepts of rhythm, structure, and musical expression through movement through the following activities:
exploration of personal space and relationship to external space
• internal and external experience of pulse and tempo
• macro and micro-beat in games of augmentation and diminution
• pulse and meter; grouping beats; anacrusis and metacrusis
• mixed meters; symmetry and asymmetry
• subdivisions; ternary and binary beats; analysis of daily movement patterns and gestures
• duration; sustained movement and internal energy
• time, space and weight in relation to execution of patterns
• complementary rhythms at the level of the beat, eighth note, sixteenth note
• form analysis; phrasing; repetition and contrast
• form analysis; form in body sculptures—stationary and in motion
