Undergraduate
The following policy applies to all undergraduate Theory courses:

Ear Training 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 (+ all Dictation sessions)
Music Fundamentals (+ Music Fundamentals lab session)
Harmony & Counterpoint 1, 2, 3, 4
Form & Analysis 1, 2
Form & Analysis 3 (+ Form & Analysis 3 lab session)
Keyboard Skills 1, 2
Piano Class 1, 2
Keyboard Theory 1, 2

• Attendance is required at every meeting: all classes, all ear training dictations, all lab sessions

• Late arrival to a class, a dictation session, or a lab session is counted as an absence

• Two unexcused absences drop the final grade by one letter grade

• Three unexcused absences result in a final grade of F and automatic administrative removal from
   the course

• An excused absence for RELIGIOUS OBSERVANCE requires an email from the Dean’s Office
   to your instructor(s) in advance of the absence

• An excused absence for an AUDITION requires an email from the Dean’s Office to your
   instructor(s) in advance of the absence

• An excused absence for ILLNESS requires a Doctor’s Note presented to the Dean’s Office
   followed by an email from the Dean’s Office to your instructor(s) within 7 days of the absence

• An absence for a FAMILY OR PERSONAL EMERGENCY requires an email from the
   Dean’s Office to your instructor(s) within 7 days of the absence

• An absence that is not excused within the time frames specified above remains ‘unexcused’

• An absence that is not excused through the channels specified above remains ‘unexcused’

Graduate

The necessity of attending all classes is self-evident, and students who miss class sessions generally find it harder to attain a grade of B- or higher. Students who miss important classwork may be advised to withdraw from a course.

General Guidelines
• An excused absence for RELIGIOUS OBSERVANCE requires an email from the Dean’s Office
   to your instructor(s) in advance of the absence

• An excused absence for an AUDITION requires an email from the Dean’s Office to your
   instructor(s) in advance of the absence

• An excused absence for ILLNESS requires a Doctor’s Note presented to the Dean’s Office
   followed by an email from the Dean’s Office to your instructor(s) within 7 days of the absence
